THE GOAL IS TO PAINT 1,000 UMBRELLAS WITH CHILDREN THEN WALK WITH THEM IN THE DIAS LATINOS FESTIVAL 21 OF AUGUST 2010
Why the umbrellas project?
More than a million umbrellas have been painted worldwide, excluding the Netherlands, which is one of the most peaceful countries in the world. The Hague is known as an international beacon of peace but to our surprise, this wonderful project has never been done here. Our goal is to have 1.000 children walk at the Dias Latinos festival of Amersfoort, the 21st of August 2010 with their umbrellas spreading the message of peace tolerance and cultural diversit
Why did the project begin at the ROC?
Immigration and integration is an important topic in the Netherlands from a social and political stand. We believe that at the ROC the first contacts are made with the Dutch culture and this is were we need to plant the positive seeds and show these new citizens the best of what our generous culture has to offer; peace, freedom, tolerance and diversity of cultures, In the Netherlands we can all live under the same umbrella in harmony.

Is this for children or adults?
This is for everyone regardless of their age, religion, nationality or background; however, children are the future, we intend to bring this positive activities to as many children as possible, this is also why we chose to start at the ROC; these are the parents of children who are going trough the difficult changes and impact of a new culture, many are refugees or have been confronted with diversities at a very young age and now have the opportunity to understand the great opportunities the future has to offer.

Why does the Mrs. Globe get involved in all this?
Our finalist are a beautiful display of the diversity of our country, this is were you can truly see what makes us special as a culturally diverse nation. We are a perfect vehicle to spread the word, because our candidates live in all mayor cities of the Netherlands, they are mothers, wives, teachers and have the wisdom and desire to do something meaningful for the community, we have the potential to reach many schools and community centers.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
The Lamb Umbrellas for Peace Project is a global art project involving painting and decorating umbrellas by children and adults. The individual will artisitically design umbrellas that represent their personal values of world peace. A subsequent parade happens throughout their neighborhoods or campus. This is a manifestation of the individual bringing peace throughout the world they live in.
The Umbrellas For Peace have been conducted in:
Argentina, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Israel/Palestine, Japan, Lithunia, Luxemburg, Panama, Poland, Slovenia, Russia, Singapore, Spain, United Kingdom, USA, Thailand and Vietnam.

The umbrella is all inclusive and does not discriminate. It accepts everyone under it for protection, no matter the race, religion, age, gender, or color. The umbrella requires action on the part of the individual. It has to be picked up, opened up and held up to provide the protection that it can offer.
The underside of the umbrella represents fears and grief, the top of the umbrella represents hopes and dreams. The shaft of the umbrella represents the universal energy which leads to the spokes that represent the individual’s strengths. The sections of the umbrella can represent something different to each participant; family, friends, religion, education, and more.

The painting of the umbrella is an empowering experience that allows the individual to express grief and fears and work through them. The painting of the umbrellas is a tangible manifestation of the concepts of peace, love, and hope in the individual’s life.
The Umbrellas For Peace challenges everyone to be the person to present the world with peace.
The Umbrellas for Peace has worked with preschool through college students and adults of all ages. Actually, organizations of all kinds can do this. It doesn’t just have to be school, but businesses, staffs, and communities.

This is an unbias activity meant to bring people together in any size, shape or form. Please know that we work tirelessly to bring victory to each person who might be discouraged by their circumstances. We empower the individual to step forward with their own voice through painting an umbrella. All the while, spreading a loving and peaceful message.
